Impact of Smoking
Smoking also affects work and productivity.
Many smokers take frequent breaks to smoke, which can lead to
reduced efficiency at work. Additionally, smoking-related illnesses
often cause people to miss work, creating financial problems for
families and adding stress to employers. Healthcare costs are
another major issue, as governments and families spend billions of
dollars each year treating diseases caused by smoking (Hughes &
Kumari, 2017).
On a social level, smoking can create conflicts with friends and family. For example, a smoker might be asked to step outside during family gatherings, which can make them feel isolated. Many public places, like restaurants and parks, have banned smoking, making it harder for smokers to find places to smoke freely. This can create frustration and challenge social situations (Hughes & Kumari, 2017).
